City sightseeing

The Guided tour Burgsteinfurt was originated around the moated castle, where the noble family still lives and sadly is not open to the public anymore. Worth seeing are the simple half-timbered house of the farmers, the largers ones of the merchants but particular the magnificent stone houses of the noble clerks, which are a greate example of medieval architecture.

In the focus of the historical city center is the guildhall (1561) with its beautiful shaped gables. This is where we start with our guided tour: churches, the "Hohe Schule" which accommodated the first university of Westfalen (1591) and plenty middle-class houses are a sign of the self-confidence of the people.
